Meet Jorge. Jorge is a senior in high school who enjoys participating in many activities. He is a member of the National Honor Society, plays snare drum in the school band and serves as the manager for the varsity boys’ basketball team. Jorge is a huge WI sports fan, and he participates in Special Olympics’ flag football, tennis and bowling.
His love for athletics and sports led him to his newest dream. After meeting a local sports anchor, Jorge knew he wanted to become a sportscaster. He even started broadcasting the daily morning announcements at his school.
Jorge and his family have been a part of Life Navigators’ Family Support program since 2018. This program connects families to community resources, opportunities, and public programs. Knowing his love for sports broadcasting, Jorge’s Life Navigators program coordinator, Michelle, set up a job shadowing experience for him through our friends at Good Karma Brands and ESPN Milwaukee.
Jorge recently visited the new ESPN Milwaukee studios to experience a day in the life of a radio sports broadcaster. He spoke with on-air personalities and worked behind-the-scenes in the production booth. Afterward, he was invited to come back to the studios, and Jorge agreed, saying he would return once the Bucks win the 2023 NBA Finals. Jorge’s love for sports broadcasting has grown since the experience, and he is so grateful to ESPN Milwaukee and Life Navigators for helping him further his dreams.
Experiences like Jorge’s are possible with the help of your continued support of Life Navigators. With every donation, we can help another kid or adult with disabilities reach their dreams. To quote Jorge, “Now is the time that you can do anything you set your mind to, and one day, your dream will come true.”
